Our mission today remains unwavering: building stronger, age-friendly communities where individuals can thrive with independence, dignity, and support.

Our mission today remains unwavering: building stronger, age-friendly communities where individuals can thrive with independence, dignity, and support.

For more than fifty years, SWIRCA & More has proudly stood beside older adults, individuals living with disabilities, and their caregivers throughout southwestern Indiana. We have been honored to walk alongside our community through changing times, evolving systems, and growing needs, and today, we want to speak clearly and directly to our friends, neighbors, and members about our present and future.

SWIRCA & More is not closing.

While there have been several changes over the last two years within Indiana’s aging services system that has directly impacted AAAs throughout the state, including a major overhaul of Indiana’s Medicaid programs, the installation of PathWays for Aging, and the reallocation of case management services, please know that SWIRCA still remains strong, stable, and deeply committed to the people we serve. In fact, this moment is not the end of our work, it is the beginning of an even stronger chapter for our organization and our community.

As part of the State of Indiana’s new selective contracting process, SWIRCA & More will no longer provide BDS Health and Wellness waiver case management services after July 31, 2026. While this change was determined by the state, SWIRCA’s priority is to support every individual and family we currently serve so they may experience a smooth and informed transition. Our case managers will continue working closely with individuals, guardians, and families to:

• Explain the transition process
• Provide updated choice lists and resources
• Assist in selecting a new Case Management Organization
• Ensure continuity of services and supports

Freedom of choice remains an important part of this process, and individuals will continue to have the right to choose among approved providers.

But over the years, SWIRCA has done far more than case management services alone. We have provided hot, nutritious meals, healthy aging and wellness programs, education, transportation assistance, caregiver support, options counseling, social connection, advocacy, volunteer engagement, and critical services that allow people to age with dignity and independence in their homes and communities. Those services continue today, and we are actively expanding our vision for tomorrow.

AAAs, like SWIRCA & More, play a critical role in strengthening communities and supporting local families. Across Indiana, AAAs help older adults remain safe in their homes, reduce unnecessary hospitalizations and nursing home placements, support family caregivers, connect vulnerable individuals to vital resources, and improve quality of life for thousands of people every day. Beyond direct services, AAAs serve as trusted advocates, conveners, and community leaders, bringing together healthcare providers, nonprofits, government agencies, and volunteers to address the growing needs of aging populations.

The work of AAAs not only supports individuals and families, but also strengthens local economies, healthcare systems, and communities as a whole. In fact, research examining Indiana’s collaboration between AAAs and integrated care models found that the state’s AAA network served as a national example for improving care coordination for high-need older adults.

A 2023 report supported by The John A. Hartford Foundation highlighted Indiana's use of AAAs to coordinate services for dual-eligible older adults as an innovative model intended to improve outcomes and better integrate healthcare with community supports.

As our community grows older, the need for trusted advocacy and compassionate support has never been greater. SWIRCA is evolving to meet that challenge. We are strengthening partnerships, expanding community engagement, increasing advocacy efforts, and exploring innovative ways to support seniors, caregivers, and vulnerable individuals across our region. We are committed not only to continuing our work — but to growing it.

Over the last several years, SWIRCA has been working to build its new Healthy Aging Campus in order to bring new programs while enhancing current vital services:

  • Oma’s Comfort Café – a new neighborhood restaurant that will nourish all generations
  • Expanded Activity Center – featuring multiple exercise and recreational spaces and a new workout facility
  • Technology Lab – a non-judgmental space to access technology, continue life-long learning, and gain new skills
  • Training/Education Center and Conference Room – multi-purpose space for seminars, trainings, and community groups
  • Caregiver Library – valuable resources and materials for family caregivers
  • Food Pantry – expanded pantry to provide shelf-stable food items and essential supplies to older adults
  • Counseling Rooms – private spaces where counselors and families can meet to develop tailored care plans
  • Tri-State Orthopedics – a new on-site, rehabilitation clinic
  • Resource Links, LLC – a new private-pay, professional care management service that will help you navigate the complexities of long-term care.

The truth is simple: SWIRCA has been a cornerstone of this community for more than half a century, and we intend to remain one for the next fifty years and beyond. We understand that change can create uncertainty, and we recognize that rumors can spread quickly. But we want our community to hear directly from us: SWIRCA is here. Our doors remain open. Our staff remains committed. Our mission remains strong. And our future remains bright.

To our clients, caregivers, donors, volunteers, community leaders, and supporters — thank you. Your trust and partnership continue to make this work possible. Together, we will continue advocating for policies, programs, and services that honor the dignity and value of every individual we serve.

Southwestern Indiana deserves a strong voice for aging adults, caregivers, and those living with disabilities. SWIRCA will continue to be that voice.
